Born in 1944

Chucklan was born in Trinidad to a creole mother and a Chinese father.

When she was two years old her father took both her and her sister back to China to live. She lived there until she was twelve years old.

Her family had to flee the persecution of the Cultural revolution in China.

When she came back to Trinidad, she spoke no English, she could not read or write.
